The American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) is an invitation-only organization that is comprised of attorneys who are widely considered to exhibit excellence in their professions. ABOTA accepts plaintiff attorneys and defendant attorneys in civil cases. It has chapters across the country, so legal professionals in every state have a chance to be invited to ABOTA.
Each year, different ABOTA chapters present the Trial Lawyer of the Year Award to the most deserving of attorneys. To earn this famed award, an attorney must be a trial lawyer, meaning that they can and do take cases to courtroom litigation when necessary.
