One child was killed, and another four people were injured when a speeding motorist crashed into their vehicle shortly after 9 p.m. on June 18 along the perimeter of Sacramento International Airport.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Woodland office were first to arrive at the crash scene. It was located just north of where County Road 22 and Interstate 5 North intersect. When they arrived there, they located a severely damaged Nissan pickup truck. They then began checking on the motorists and looking for witnesses.
The witnesses reported seeing a speeding BMW following a Nissan pickup truck right before the collision occurred. They then saw the sedan collide into the truck. The impact of the crash caused the pickup to leave its lane and travel down an embankment. It overturned before coming to rest in a field.
Police have identified the occupants of the pickup as a 29-year-old Woodland man and four kids. In a press release, a CHP spokesperson noted that the man and his three young daughters were all transported to the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) Medical Center with major injuries. The man’s 5-year-old son died in the crash.
CHP has identified the BMW’s driver as a 34-year-old Sacramento man. He was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. Police later booked him in the Yolo County Jail on both driving under the influence (DUI) and manslaughter charges. According to police, he’d already been serving probation on separate DUI charges when this crash occurred.
Car crashes are like many other types of accidents. If most motorists simply re-evaluated their driving, they’d likely be able to identify ways that they could improve the operation of their vehicle. If they made these changes, then they’d reduce their risk and others’ risk of becoming involved in a crash. While some accidents can be avoided, motorists often can’t escape those caused by drunk, drugged, distracted, drowsy or speeding motorists.
It’s important that you don’t just allow a negligent motorist who injured or killed your loved one to be dealt with by the criminal legal system. You should instead allow a personal injury attorney who has a stellar reputation for winning justice and maximum compensation file a civil suit against them too. This is the only way to ensure that they’re penalized to the fullest for their wrongs.
