Two elderly females were both struck by a motorist while out walking in a residential neighborhood in Carmichael on the morning of March 22. The incident that claimed a 72-year-old woman’s life and seriously injured her friend happened on Arden Way just before 9:30 a.m. A teenage driver is believed to have caused the fatal crash.
A spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) released a statement about the incident. In it, they said that the 16-year-old female motorist had been traveling westbound along Arden Way when she suddenly glided to her right nearby the 5500 blocks of that roadway.
The two victims happened to be walking along Arden Way’s shoulder at the same time that the teen swerved her car in their direction, striking them.
Paramedics were summoned to the scene of the crash. They quickly whisked both pedestrians away to a nearby hospital. One of the victims died soon after her arrival there. The other was listed as having serious injuries. Both were reportedly Sacramento residents.
CHP’s North Sacramento spokesperson noted in their statement that they haven’t yet determined why the teen swerved her car to the right, causing the crash. They don’t believe that she was on alcohol or drugs at the time the accident occurred. They note that the teen has cooperated with their investigation. They haven’t yet decided whether to press charges against her for the victims’ injuries or death.
Whether we’re talking about drunk, drugged, reckless, distracted or drowsy driving, all of these impact motorists in pretty significant ways. They can cause a driver’s motor skills to not be as sharp as they would otherwise be. This lack of sound judgment can cause them to strike pedestrians and other motorists.
Individuals who have lost their loved ones in senseless crashes should file suit against the negligent motorists who caused them. They should do this to send a message to them that all careless drivers and public entities will be held accountable for their actions.
